About the sound

Headphones recommended

Strings, woodwinds and brass together · Direction and distance change with your seat.

Direct sound is combined with early reflections and reverberation. Their proportions change with the seat. This is a synthesis based on assumptions, not a recording of the actual hall.

Acoustic sources and model scope

Statistical model · Not measured

Ensemble listening estimates direct sound from five equally loud representative instruments plus early and late reflected energy. It does not trace individual wall reflections or measure sound on site. Playback uses the same energy model, but the samples' instrumentation and volume differ from the equal-strength scoring assumption. Changing a sample does not change the recommendation criteria.

Reverberation time used

Room volume used

We also check score variation under nine assumptions: reverberation time ±0.4 seconds and volume ±20%. Balcony obstruction, reflector placement, and instrument directivity are not included. Scores cannot rank sound quality across venues.

Lowest component: Clarity–reverberation balance, 54 pts. Weaker components influence the combined score; scenarios range from 16 to 94 pts.

Scores rise when all three criteria are met together. Weights indicate importance; weaker components have more influence on the combined score.

Ensemble estimate: 16–94 pts

These are nine calculations with different assumed reverberation times and room volumes. Actual quality is not guaranteed to fall within this range, and a few points do not establish which seat is better.

Sound strength (G)

These values come from a statistical model, not measurements. C80 is assessed against a chosen balance range rather than rewarding higher values; G is assessed for sufficient strength. View calculation criteria

Ensemble listening uses assumed direct sound, early reflections, and late reverberation. Direct-sound preference is distance-based; view scores use distance, overview, and alignment. Reflectors, balcony obstruction, and instrument directivity are not modeled, so rear-seat acoustics may also be overestimated. How to read the scores

Comparing seats at Dream Theatre

Compare stage views and strings, bass or full orchestra sound in A/B. Ensemble listening scores are acoustic model estimates, not on-site measurements. Rows and seat numbers follow the official seating plan (numbers run on across sections within a row). Lateral seat positions on 2F and 3F are estimates, and wheelchair spaces are not included.

What sources confirm — From the ground-plan and longitudinal-section CAD sheet in the stage technical data (2019) that the operator publishes for rental clients, we read the positions of all 1,046 chairs on 1F as drawn, and from the same sheet’s centre-line section the floor height of every row on all three levels (1F rows 1–24: 0→3.4 m; 2F rows 1–9: 7.0→10.8 m; 3F rows 1–6: 13.7→16.7 m) and the depth of the 2F and 3F rows. Levels, rows and numbers all match the operator’s seating plan (1F 1,016 · 2F 392 · 3F 280 seats, plus 18 wheelchair spaces). The scale is fixed by the section’s floor-level dimensions (2F–7F FL 32,000 mm); at that scale the proscenium opening comes out at the official 16 m and the 1F VIP row pitch at the official 1,000 mm. The stage floor at +0.98 m, the 16 × 12 m proscenium and the 2F balcony front (0.65 m above row 1, its outer face 1.28 m from the row-1 chairs) are drawing values, and the 1.45 s reverberation time is from the architectural-acoustics table in the operator’s facility overview (500 Hz, unoccupied).

What remains estimated — No plan CAD with chairs is published for 2F and 3F, so those seats are a model: the seating-plan cells are spread at the 1F CAD seat pitch (0.52 m) along the row arcs of the wiring plans (4F/5F; arcs with the same centre as the 1F rows) and their aisle positions. Lateral seat positions on 2F and 3F are therefore estimates, and because the section cuts only the centre line, side sections use the same row heights. Row pitches follow the CAD — 0.92 m on 1F (1.0 m between rows 12 and 15), 0.92 m on 2F and 1.0 m on 3F — and differ from the 950 mm general figure in the facility overview. 1F row 25 is placed one step (0.2 m) above row 24 as an estimate, because the sound-mixing booth occupies the centre line there. The 3F front is a walkway 0.6 m below row 1 with a parapet lower than the row-1 floor (1.7 m ahead) and a rail on it (1.8 m ahead, row-1 floor +0.13 m). That step cannot be drawn, so it is represented by a wall (0.61 m) and rail (0.81 m) at the front edge of the row-1 tread (0.6 m ahead) that appear at the same angles from a row-1 eye (checked against the operator’s 3F seat-view photos). The 18 wheelchair spaces are not included; walls, ceiling and the auditorium volume are modeled. The 21-seat difference between the official 1,727 seats and the seating plan’s 1,688 seats + 18 wheelchair spaces could not be explained (the 1F figure of 1,046 equals the number of chairs in the 2019 CAD).

Views are calculated using a 1.75 m figure, your chosen eye height and seat coordinates. Actual obstructions from people, railings or equipment and show-specific layouts may not be represented. Orchestral sound combines direction, distance and assumed early reflections and reverberation. It does not use responses measured in the actual hall. Scores indicate preference fit; actual obstructions, sound quality and price are not yet included.

Orchestral audio: original samples made from VSCO 2 CE recordings (Versilian Studios, CC0). Band and game sounds are synthesized. Crowd audio uses Sandermotions’ CC0 recordings, not recordings from this venue.
