Sound experience
About the sound
Strings, woodwinds and brass together · Direction and distance change with your seat.
Direct sound is combined with early reflections and reverberation. Their proportions change with the seat. This is a synthesis based on assumptions, not a recording of the actual hall.
Acoustic sources and model scope
Ensemble listening estimates direct sound from five equally loud representative instruments plus early and late reflected energy. It does not trace individual wall reflections or measure sound on site. Playback uses the same energy model, but the samples' instrumentation and volume differ from the equal-strength scoring assumption. Changing a sample does not change the recommendation criteria.
- Reverberation time used
- 2.0s Shared assumption without venue measurements
- Room volume used
- 46,200m³ Estimated from the 3D enclosure · Actual volume unconfirmed
We also check score variation under nine assumptions: reverberation time ±0.4 seconds and volume ±20%. Balcony obstruction, reflector placement, and instrument directivity are not included. Scores cannot rank sound quality across venues.
Acoustic method and limitationsModel calculations from the selected seat to the reference point. A larger angular size means the person appears larger.
A/B score comparison
- Estimated acoustics · Ensemble listening
- 95pts
- View · Balanced
- 74pts
Lowest component: Sound energy adequacy, 86 pts. Weaker components influence the combined score; scenarios range from 81 to 98 pts.
Scores rise when all three criteria are met together. Weights indicate importance; weaker components have more influence on the combined score.
Ensemble estimate: 81–98 pts
These are nine calculations with different assumed reverberation times and room volumes. Actual quality is not guaranteed to fall within this range, and a few points do not establish which seat is better.
- Clarity–reverberation ratio (C80)
- 1.8 dB
- Sound strength (G)
- 1.6 dB
These values come from a statistical model, not measurements. C80 is assessed against a chosen balance range rather than rewarding higher values; G is assessed for sufficient strength. View calculation criteria

Ensemble listening uses assumed direct sound, early reflections, and late reverberation. Direct-sound preference is distance-based; view scores use distance, overview, and alignment. Reflectors, balcony obstruction, and instrument directivity are not modeled, so rear-seat acoustics may also be overestimated. How to read the scores
Comparing seats at Arts Center Incheon Concert Hall
Compare stage views and strings, bass or full orchestra sound in A/B. Ensemble listening scores are acoustic model estimates, not on-site measurements. Rows and seat numbers follow the official seating plan. Positions in 2F block B and on 3F, and the heights of the side blocks, are estimates. The 62 seats in 3F row 1 are marked on the plan as obstructed-view seats that are not sold.
How this experience was built
What sources confirm — From the concert hall drawings (2018) that Arts Center Incheon publishes for rental clients, we read the chair positions of the 767 seats in 1F blocks A, B and C from the 1F auditorium plan, and of 526 seats — the choir (E), the side blocks D and F beside the stage, 2F BL, BR, A and C, and the 1F BL and BR terraces — from the 2F lighting-circuit plan. The two plans were aligned on the same stage-front curve, and the scale was checked against the drawings' dimension lines. Levels, blocks, rows and seat numbers all match the official concert hall seating plan (1,709 seats excluding 18 wheelchair spaces). From the longitudinal section in the same set we read the floor height of 24 rows on 1F, 7 rows in 2F block B, 5 rows in 3F block B and 4 choir rows (1F row 1 at 0 → row 24 at 2.77 m, stage +0.9 m, 2F B 7.16→9.50 m, 3F B 13.21→15.51 m). The stage width of 20.6–15.4 m, depth of 12.8 m and height of 0.9 m come from the official stage technical guide.
What remains estimated — 2F block B and the 3F seats have no plan in the drawings, so their positions are estimates converted from the row shapes in the official seat-guide images using a 0.52 m chair width and the row positions in the section (the 3F side blocks may be off by about a metre). The heights of D and F beside the stage, 2F BL, BR, A and C, 3F A and C and the 1F BL and BR terraces are estimated from the side-tier lines projected in the section; 1F BL and BR have the weakest evidence. The six seats at the ends of row 5 in 2F A and C, drawn as wheelchair spaces in the 2018 drawings, were added along their rows to follow the current seating plan. The front parapets of 2F and 3F block B use the section's heights; other railings, walls and the ceiling are approximations. The musicians are an example layout, and no official reverberation time has been published.
Views are calculated using a 1.75 m figure, your chosen eye height and seat coordinates. Actual obstructions from people, railings or equipment and show-specific layouts may not be represented. Orchestral sound combines direction, distance and assumed early reflections and reverberation. It does not use responses measured in the actual hall. Scores indicate preference fit; actual obstructions, sound quality and price are not yet included.
Orchestral audio: original samples made from VSCO 2 CE recordings (Versilian Studios, CC0). Band and game sounds are synthesized. Crowd audio uses Sandermotions’ CC0 recordings, not recordings from this venue.
