Sound experience
About the sound
Strings, woodwinds and brass together · Direction and distance change with your seat.
Direct sound is combined with early reflections and reverberation. Their proportions change with the seat. This is a synthesis based on assumptions, not a recording of the actual hall.
Acoustic sources and model scope
Ensemble listening estimates direct sound from five equally loud representative instruments plus early and late reflected energy. It does not trace individual wall reflections or measure sound on site. Playback uses the same energy model, but the samples' instrumentation and volume differ from the equal-strength scoring assumption. Changing a sample does not change the recommendation criteria.
- Reverberation time used
- 2.0s Shared assumption without venue measurements
- Room volume used
- 6,084m³ Estimated from the 3D enclosure · Actual volume unconfirmed
We also check score variation under nine assumptions: reverberation time ±0.4 seconds and volume ±20%. Balcony obstruction, reflector placement, and instrument directivity are not included. Scores cannot rank sound quality across venues.
Acoustic method and limitationsModel calculations from the selected seat to the reference point. A larger angular size means the person appears larger.
A/B score comparison
- Estimated acoustics · Ensemble listening
- 100pts
- View · Balanced
- 73pts
Lowest component: Instrument delivery balance, 99 pts. Weaker components influence the combined score; scenarios range from 99 to 100 pts.
Scores rise when all three criteria are met together. Weights indicate importance; weaker components have more influence on the combined score.
Ensemble estimate: 99–100 pts
These are nine calculations with different assumed reverberation times and room volumes. Actual quality is not guaranteed to fall within this range, and a few points do not establish which seat is better.
- Clarity–reverberation ratio (C80)
- -0.6 dB
- Sound strength (G)
- 9.2 dB
These values come from a statistical model, not measurements. C80 is assessed against a chosen balance range rather than rewarding higher values; G is assessed for sufficient strength. View calculation criteria

Ensemble listening uses assumed direct sound, early reflections, and late reverberation. Direct-sound preference is distance-based; view scores use distance, overview, and alignment. Reflectors, balcony obstruction, and instrument directivity are not modeled, so rear-seat acoustics may also be overestimated. How to read the scores
Comparing seats at Seoul Arts Center IBK Chamber Hall
Compare stage views and strings, bass or full orchestra sound in A/B. Ensemble listening scores are acoustic model estimates, not on-site measurements. Rows and numbers follow the official seating plan. Box seats carry numbers only; the 3D positions and heights from 1F row 8 back, and of 2F and the boxes, are estimates back-calculated from official photos.
How this experience was built
What sources confirm — We placed all 594 seats from Seoul Arts Center’s official seating plan (spreadsheet) with their rows and numbers in 1F blocks A, B and C and the 2F A and B blocks and BOX1–2; with 6 wheelchair spaces this matches the official 600. For 1F rows 1–7 we copied the positions of the 175 chairs drawn in the official stage drawing (DWG) as they are (row spacing 0.95 m, seat spacing 0.51–0.54 m, each block on an arc facing the stage), and continued the same arcs and straight aisle lines for rows 8–17. The 12.6 m stage width, 8.3 m depth and the stage edge curving toward the audience also come from the drawing. The 1F rake, the stage height and the height and distance of 2F were set by back-calculating camera heights from eight official seat-view photos, using where the folded rear-wall panels and the stage edge appear in each image.
What remains estimated — The drawing covers only 1F rows 1–7, so the positions of rows 8–17 continue the drawing’s row spacing and arcs as an estimate. The 1F row heights (the stage floor about 0.6 m above the row 1 floor, row 17 at about 2.8 m) follow a curve fitted to the photo-derived values, so each row may be off by around 0.1 m. For the 2F A and B blocks the row 1 position (about 11.7 m from the stage edge, about 5.7 m above the 1F row 1 floor) comes from the photos, with 0.9 m row spacing and 0.5 m rises assumed; distances may be off by about ±0.7 m. The box seats sit in a single row on the galleries above the side walls; their front-to-back positions follow the official seating plan drawing and their heights are estimated from hall photos. Walls, ceiling and parapet dimensions are approximations, and the musicians are an example ensemble on stage.
Views are calculated using a 1.75 m figure, your chosen eye height and seat coordinates. Actual obstructions from people, railings or equipment and show-specific layouts may not be represented. Orchestral sound combines direction, distance and assumed early reflections and reverberation. It does not use responses measured in the actual hall. Scores indicate preference fit; actual obstructions, sound quality and price are not yet included.
Orchestral audio: original samples made from VSCO 2 CE recordings (Versilian Studios, CC0). Band and game sounds are synthesized. Crowd audio uses Sandermotions’ CC0 recordings, not recordings from this venue.
