About the sound

Headphones recommended

Strings, woodwinds and brass together · Direction and distance change with your seat.

Direct sound is combined with early reflections and reverberation. Their proportions change with the seat. This is a synthesis based on assumptions, not a recording of the actual hall.

Acoustic sources and model scope

Statistical model · Not measured

Ensemble listening estimates direct sound from five equally loud representative instruments plus early and late reflected energy. It does not trace individual wall reflections or measure sound on site. Playback uses the same energy model, but the samples' instrumentation and volume differ from the equal-strength scoring assumption. Changing a sample does not change the recommendation criteria.

Reverberation time used
2.0s Shared assumption without venue measurements
Room volume used
16,289m³ Assumed from the 3D shell (bounded to 8–13 m³ per seat) · actual volume unconfirmed

We also check score variation under nine assumptions: reverberation time ±0.4 seconds and volume ±20%. Balcony obstruction, reflector placement, and instrument directivity are not included. Scores cannot rank sound quality across venues.

View · Balanced
77pts
Clarity–reverberation balance 40%100
Instrument delivery balance 25%96
Sound energy adequacy 35%99

Lowest component: Instrument delivery balance, 96 pts. Weaker components influence the combined score; scenarios range from 80 to 99 pts.

Scores rise when all three criteria are met together. Weights indicate importance; weaker components have more influence on the combined score.

Ensemble estimate: 80–99 pts

These are nine calculations with different assumed reverberation times and room volumes. Actual quality is not guaranteed to fall within this range, and a few points do not establish which seat is better.

Clarity–reverberation ratio (C80)
-0.3 dB
Sound strength (G)
4.7 dB

These values come from a statistical model, not measurements. C80 is assessed against a chosen balance range rather than rewarding higher values; G is assessed for sufficient strength. View calculation criteria

Ensemble listening uses assumed direct sound, early reflections, and late reverberation. Direct-sound preference is distance-based; view scores use distance, overview, and alignment. Reflectors, balcony obstruction, and instrument directivity are not modeled, so rear-seat acoustics may also be overestimated. How to read the scores

Comparing seats at Chungmu Arts Center Grand Theater

Compare stage views and strings, bass or full orchestra sound in A/B. Ensemble listening scores are acoustic model estimates, not on-site measurements. Rows and seat numbers follow the official seating plan (numbered from 1 in each block). Side box seats S1–S6 have numbers only. Lateral positions in 1F block B and on 2F/3F are estimates, and wheelchair spaces are not included.

What sources confirm — From the CAD drawing (2025.11) that the operator publishes as stage technical data for rental clients, we read the positions of the 353 chairs in blocks A and C on the 1F plan, and from the same drawing’s centre-line longitudinal section the floor height of every row (1F rows 1–20: 0→3.14 m; 2F rows 1–10: 6.51→9.89 m; 3F rows 1–8: 11.63→14.93 m). Seats per level, block and row and the seat numbers all match the official seating plan published after the June 2025 reopening (1F 683 · 2F 277 · 3F 280 seats, plus 13 wheelchair spaces). The 17.1 × 10.5 m proscenium, the stage floor at +0.93 m, the 3.0 m-deep orchestra pit and the 2F/3F balcony-front heights are values from the official drawings.

What remains estimated — On the CAD 1F plan every row of block B is drawn with one seat fewer than on the official seating plan, so the rows stay where the CAD puts them and the official seat counts (17/16) are spread evenly between the CAD aisle lines (about 0.52 m apart; modeled). No plan CAD is published for 2F and 3F, so their seats are a model that moves the 1F CAD block layout to the section’s row depths; lateral seat positions and the angle of the side blocks are estimates. 2F row 11 has no chair in the section and is placed one step above and behind row 10, with the same rise (0.37 m) and pitch (1 m) as rows 9→10 (estimate), and the side box seats S1–S6 are modeled 1 m apart along the side galleries shown on the lighting circuit plan, at that level’s row-1 height. The section cuts only the centre line, so side blocks use the same row heights. The 13 wheelchair spaces are not included; walls, ceiling and acoustics are modeled.

Views are calculated using a 1.75 m figure, your chosen eye height and seat coordinates. Actual obstructions from people, railings or equipment and show-specific layouts may not be represented. Orchestral sound combines direction, distance and assumed early reflections and reverberation. It does not use responses measured in the actual hall. Scores indicate preference fit; actual obstructions, sound quality and price are not yet included.

Orchestral audio: original samples made from VSCO 2 CE recordings (Versilian Studios, CC0). Band and game sounds are synthesized. Crowd audio uses Sandermotions’ CC0 recordings, not recordings from this venue.
